Last month, over 100 international MICE professionals came to Ireland for what was an incredibly successful familiarisation trip. Organised by 13 ITOA (Incoming Tour Operator Association) DMCs and Fáilte Ireland, the aim of this fam trip was to showcase Ireland as a superior MICE destination.
One of Ireland's signature drinks, the Irish Coffee was created in 1942 by Joe Sheridan, a chef from Limerick. He was welcoming American visitors to Ireland, who were arriving on a cold winter night, and decided to put whiskey in their coffee to warm them up. When his guests enquired what the drink was, Sheridan declared it was an Irish Coffee, and the rest is history!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope the Easter Bunny comes this Sunday. For those of you who celebrate Easter, you may know that it can really vary from country to country. Here in Ireland, people often associate the word 'Easter' not just with the Catholic celebration, but also with the Easter Rising of 1916, in which members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) rose up against British occupation in Ireland and proclaimed an Irish Republic.
Whiskey distilling has been a part of Irish culture and heritage for centuries. In recent years, Irish Whiskey has seen a huge growth in popularity worldwide, with a particular interest in artisan whiskey. This increase in popularity has been reflected here with an extraordinary number of distilleries and craft breweries opening in the past 18 months.

Saint Patrick's Day - it is a day that is celebrated by people not only here in Ireland, but also in cities all around the world. On the 17th March we honour our patron saint by attending exciting festivals and parades, and of course by wearing the colour green, the colour of the shamrock that Saint Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish.
